Location: Rye, Mornington Peninsula
This hillside garden is a masterclass in form, texture, and flow, designed to complement the contemporary architecture above while connecting seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. Bold, sculpted spheres of coastal rosemary and westringia anchor the planting, softened by generous drifts of succulents, flowering perennials, and low native groundcovers.
The garden was constructed in sections to respond to the site’s steep topography. Winding, compacted gravel paths meander down the slope, allowing safe navigation to the lower carpark.
The planting scheme is designed with both aesthetics and practicality in mind, creating a piece of art viewed from above using drought-tolerant species that thrive in challenging coastal conditions.
